UPSIDE DOWN PFC
Thursday, October 13, 2011

Hamilton, ON (CP) - If you told me that Dallas, Florida and Las Vegas would be all 4-1 after week five and that Denver, Mississauga and San Diego would be struggling with 2-3 records, I would have been laughing and betting my house that you were wrong.  Well it's a good thing I didn't put my house on the line because it turns out this is the case.

The entire PFC is upside down as three teams have taken complete control of the conference and turned the tables on the leaders for the past few seasons.  Dallas, Florida and Las Vegas are not only winning, but they are winning big and have a lot of momentum still building.  Dallas and Las Vegas, are winning games by blowing opponents out and put up a lot of big numbers.  These wins are not luck.  Florida has been playing fundamentally sound football and are winning games simply by outplaying them.  After five weeks, it's clear that they are contenders and not gettting lucky bounces.  You don't get a 4-1 record for just getting by every game.

Now the usual favourites, Denver, Mississauga and San Diego are all looking for answers for why they are not winning.  It is extremely unusual for any of these three teams in the past few season to fathom a sub .500 record in the first five weeks, let alone all three of them at once.  Denver is still managing to put up a lot of points per game, the problem is, they are allowing almost as much as they are putting up.  Mississauga did have a great start, but all of a sudden their wheels just fell off.  San Diego is trying to find some consistency because they will find the rest of the season is only going to get tougher when the playoff push starts up in the next few weeks.

There are still nine games to be played, but panic sets in early with a 14 game season and teams that are usually in the driver's seat and find themselves as a passenger, need to find a way to take back control of that steering wheel or they may as well get out of the car now.

AFC Outlook:
Well the AFC looks to pretty much be the same as Oakland and Washington are still the two powerhouses that run that conference as they both have a 4-1 record.  As predicted, Arizona, Philadelphia and San Francisco are struggling and all three have a combined 2-13 record.  New England is sitting with a 2-3 record, which almost confirms the criticism about their Iron Bowl win last year being a fluke because their roster has not seen much of a change.  Buffalo leads the weak division by with a 3-2 record, but how long they can hold that remains to be seen.
